The Springfield Xtreme start their run to another championship Monday night on the road against the 3rd place: St. Adolphe Hawks. The Hawks made quick work in the first round sweeping the series against the Steinbach Huskies in three games.

The series sets up to be a great one with the 2nd and 3rd place teams going head-to-head. The Xtreme took the season series 3-2 but all games were won by the visiting team.

Xtreme win 3 in row, securing 2nd Place in Regular Season!

After a difficult loss to the Red River Mudbugs (8-1) at home, the Xtreme closed out the season on a 3-game winning streak.

First the Xtreme went into St Adolphe on Monday playing with a short bench, but came out firing. Scoring 3 goals in the first period in all situations, even strength, Power Play and Penalty Kill, the Xtreme jumped out to an early lead. After some bad penalties taken by the boys in the second period, they held strong and continued to hold a 4-2 lead. A strong push by the St. Adolphe Hawks in the third period made the game close, but the boys pulled off a nice 5-4 win.

Another Sprinfield Xtreme line stepped up last night in Steinbach. The line of Jeff Boonstra, Tyler Chapko and Ethan McDuffe helped score 4 goals and lead the Xtreme to another win against the last place Steinbach Huskies. The Xtreme played a strong special teams game again, capitalizing on the PP and keeping the PK clean. Goalie Trey Blank played solid in net and made timely saves when needed. AC: Trevor Weimer and C: Jesse Mitchell lead from the back end and helped secure another win to keep the Xtreme tied for first place in the HTJHL!

The McDLT Line nets 5!

After a tough loss in overtime on Friday in St. Jean against the Red River Mudbugs, the Springfield Xtreme looked to bounce back against the Mitchell Mohawks.

Special teams was the difference.

First, the Xtreme killed off undisciplined penalty after undisciplined penalty. The team put themselves on to penalty-kill 3 times (5 on 3) during the game, but did not give up a goal!

A strong efficient PK and some solid goal-tending from Quinn Walterson helped keep the Mowhawks off the scoreboard during their power-plays.

The H-T-L Line lead Xtreme to Victory!

On a cold Thursday night in Mitchell, the Springfield Xtreme visited the Mohawks looking to continue their winning ways.

It was a difficult start for the Xtreme, as Mitchell came out skating and working hard. But, with tremendous goal-tending effort from Xtreme Rookie: Trey Blank, the Mohawks were kept off the scoreboard.

After 10 minutes of domination from Mitchell (the Xtreme being out shot 13-3) the Lamouruex Line clicked into gear and first set up Jesse Mitchell for a goal to take the lead. Then, they continued and helped Players Choice of the Game and Xtreme Rookie: Rhett Schrofel to score his first goal as an Xtreme.

Xtreme “Fly-by” Comets

After a difficult loss on Friday night at the hands of the Red River Mudbugs, the Springfield Xtreme returned home to face the Lorette Comets.

At the start of the game, Lorette jumped out to an early lead in the first period. The Xtreme struggled to get going, until Ben Naaykens got into a spirited tilt with a Comets player that seemed to get the home teams’ bench pumped and ready to rock. The Xtreme then consistently shifted, until they fell into gear and dominated the next 10 minutes but could not put a puck past Lorette Comets goalie Fournier.

The Xtreme continued to come out battling in an intense second period, fighting for any possible chances.

Xtreme put the “Puppies” to bed for New Years..

After coming off a tough 3-1 loss against the St Adolphe Hawks on December 28; The Springfield Xtreme returned to the Oakbank One Insurance Arena on Saturday December 30th looking to rebound back and win facing a short handed Steinbach Huskies squad.

The Xtreme had a difficult start, and the Huskies kept the game close throughout the first period, succeeding in ending Trey Blank’s consecutive-game shutout streak (Total: 135 minutes).

After watching the Future Xtreme stars score during the intermission, the Springfield Xtreme stepped up and put three goals past the “Puppies” in the second period with two of the goals from Xtreme Captain: Jesse Mitchell. The Xtreme kept on the pressure and were able to take a 4-2 lead going into the third period.

On December 21st, the Springfield Xtreme went into Mitchell to face the Mohawks on a cold December night, and left a little warmer: up 2 more points in the HTJHL standings.

Riley Thomsen first put the Xtreme up 1-0 by tipping in a point shot early in the first period.

In the second period the Xtreme continued the pressure, but were only able to score 1 more goal passed the Mohawks goaltender.

Jeff Boonstra scored his first goal as an Xtreme player off a flurry of chances in front of the net.

In the third period, the Xtreme continued to control most of the play. Defence coach Kevin Maslechko kept the players motivated by stating every cliche in the book.

Xtreme beat Huskies 8-0!

The Springfield Xtreme went into Steinbach on Sunday night and walked out 2 points richer in the standings with a solid 8-0 win!

Rookie: Brandon Melnick came out with a 2 goal, 2 assist effort notching him four points to start off his Springfield Xtreme career and earning himself the player of the game honors.

Not to be out done, 3rd vet and reigning Defenceman of the Year Trevor Weimer notched four points of his own. Along with Jacob Daniels scoring two booming goals, the Xtreme played a solid game and came away with a solid victory!

Starting in his first game as a member of the Springfield Xtreme, goalie Trey Blank played very well in net and notched a shutout. This shutout amounts to his first win with the team, and a good start to his season with a 20-shots-saved performance.
