On December 21st, the Springfield Xtreme went into Mitchell to face the Mohawks on a cold December night, and left a little warmer: up 2 more points in the HTJHL standings.
Riley Thomsen first put the Xtreme up 1-0 by tipping in a point shot early in the first period.
In the second period the Xtreme continued the pressure, but were only able to score 1 more goal passed the Mohawks goaltender.
Jeff Boonstra scored his first goal as an Xtreme player off a flurry of chances in front of the net.
In the third period, the Xtreme continued to control most of the play. Defence coach Kevin Maslechko kept the players motivated by stating every cliche in the book.
Backed by a solid goal-tending outing, and getting his second shutout in a row,
Trey Blank was awarded Player of the Game.
The Springfield Xtreme sit alone, at the top of the HTJHL standings with a 10-2 record at the start of the Christmas break. Come out and cheer on the Xtreme when the season resumes on December 28th at home in the Oakbank One Insurance Arena against the St Adolphe Hawks in a battle between the top two teams in the league.
