After a difficult loss on Friday night at the hands of the Red River Mudbugs, the Springfield Xtreme returned home to face the Lorette Comets.
At the start of the game, Lorette jumped out to an early lead in the first period. The Xtreme struggled to get going, until Ben Naaykens got into a spirited tilt with a Comets player that seemed to get the home teams’ bench pumped and ready to rock. The Xtreme then consistently shifted, until they fell into gear and dominated the next 10 minutes but could not put a puck past Lorette Comets goalie Fournier.
The Xtreme continued to come out battling in an intense second period, fighting for any possible chances.
They took the game over with goals from Nate Renooy, Steven Maslechko and two from Riley Thomsen, that gave them a 4-1 lead into the 3rd period.
The Xtreme continued to control the game and put up two more goals. The first goal was from Zach Turner, and the second goal was from player of the game: Tyrell Courchene, notching his first Xtreme goal as part of the Springfield Xtreme.
The Springfield Xtreme ended the game with a 6-2 win on the score board, and will take on the Mitchell Mohawks on Thursday, January 11th in Mitchell.
