After a tough loss in overtime on Friday in St. Jean against the Red River Mudbugs, the Springfield Xtreme looked to bounce back against the Mitchell Mohawks.
Special teams was the difference.
First, the Xtreme killed off undisciplined penalty after undisciplined penalty. The team put themselves on to penalty-kill 3 times (5 on 3) during the game, but did not give up a goal!
A strong efficient PK and some solid goal-tending from Quinn Walterson helped keep the Mowhawks off the scoreboard during their power-plays.
Then, the Xtreme power-play kicked into gear! After tallying 2 goals to start the game and earning a shortened 5 minute power-play the newly formed: McD (uffe) L (amoureux) T (homsen) line took control and netted 3 more goals for a 5-2 victory, with 2 goals happening on the power-play.
The Xtreme played an effective system on power-play, producing chance after chance making both PP Coach: Kevin Maslechko and PK Coach: Jaret Pelda very happy with the teams penalty efficiency.
Goal-tending Coach: Branden DeVisser was very happy with Quinn Walterson’s play in between the pipes.
The Xtreme play a home-ice-advantage return engagement against the Mitchell Mohawks this Sunday, January 28 at the Oakbank One Insurance Arena at 6:30 PM.
Come out and support your Springfield Xtreme!
