After a difficult loss to the Red River Mudbugs (8-1) at home, the Xtreme closed out the season on a 3-game winning streak.
First the Xtreme went into St Adolphe on Monday playing with a short bench, but came out firing. Scoring 3 goals in the first period in all situations, even strength, Power Play and Penalty Kill, the Xtreme jumped out to an early lead. After some bad penalties taken by the boys in the second period, they held strong and continued to hold a 4-2 lead. A strong push by the St. Adolphe Hawks in the third period made the game close, but the boys pulled off a nice 5-4 win.
Friday was win #2 for the Springfield Xtreme on the road against the Lorette Comets. The Xtreme played a close to perfect game plan! Playing physical and using speed, the boys definitely over-matched the Comets. Backstopped by Quinn Walterson making some timely saves, the Xtreme won 6-0. Jacob Daniels continued his Power Play presence scoring another goal, and the newly acquired Michael Groinus scored his first goal of the season and first goal as an Xtreme!
Finally, the Springfield Xtreme closed out their regular season with a second win in St Adolphe to secure a bye for the first round of playoffs.
Again dominating the game physically, the Xtreme over powered the Hawks. The continued to frustrate the Hawks constantly, and scored another Power Play goal. The dominant forechecking from Ben Naaykens, Zach Turner, and Nate Renooy caused lots of turnovers and helped the Xtreme capitalize with two more goals.
The Xtreme closed out the season with three on-the-road wins, and finish tied for 1st in the standings, but ranked 2nd due to head-to-head matches.
The Springfield Xtreme eagerly await the second round of playoffs (due to first round bye) to continue their season, and move closer towards winning their 2nd HTJHL Championship!
